Available domain names

I have been asked a few times the following question, so I thought I would answer it here.

Why don't you just show the available domain names and not all the ones that are taken?

When I first started the site, I tried this. However, when searching for something like 3 or 4 letter domain names, you rarely get any free domains (probably zero). Therefore, the page just appears to not be working. By showing the ones that are taken, you can see the page is processing. I also thought I can try to show domains which are available on domain resellers (such as sedo) or domains which are about to expire.

I do try to show up domains which have previously shown up as available on available domain names
